There is some unfortunate and disturbing news coming out following Wapakoneta's playoff football loss to Trotwood-Madison this past weekend.
Your News Now took a couple of calls this week indicating alleged racial slurs, foul language, and the flying of the Confederate flag during and after the game, which Trotwood-Madison won 41 to 7. According to media reports in Dayton, the slurs and foul language was directed at Trotwood band members, dancers and cheerleaders.
When contacted by Your News Now today, Wapakoneta superintendent Keith Horner issued the following statement to us. "There were incidents reported and observed at the football game that we most certainly consider unacceptable. When we learned of these incidents, we acted quickly to address the issue if it was possible. We did not learn of all the reported incidents until well after the game. Our goal and hope now is to simply move forward and use this as a positive learning experience for our students."
