At the Wapakoneta VFW Post 8445, they not only honored those who died in service to the United States but their members that passed away over the last year. Plus, they have recognized Donald Schweitzer for not only being a member of the VFW for nearly 55 years, but also for being inducted into the Ohio Military Hall of Fame 2018.
The Honor Guard and Flag Corp. participated in three Memorial Day events today, and they are glad to see people come out to honor the service of the men and women who died in action and the veterans that served their country.
"It's very appreciative to see all these people out here today," said John Schwarck, Honor Guard VFW Post 8445. "It makes you feel like the sacrifices that we've made as veterans did not all go in vain and we are very thankful and it was very good to see all the people out here today."
Next Saturday, veterans organizations and the public will be gathering at 1 p.m. for the dedication of the Wapakoneta Gold Star Family Memorial Monument in downtown Wapakoneta to honor the families that sacrificed a loved one while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
