LIMA, Ohio — The 2025 Lima City Golf Championship teed off on Friday with championship flight qualifiers and the opening round of match play unfolding at Hidden Creek Golf Club.

Former champion Guillermo Garron, representing UNOH, impressed early in medal play, finishing 3-under to secure his spot in the quarterfinals. He was joined in match play by Alex Odenweller, who wrapped up his round on the 18th green and advanced to face Ben Giere.

Match play began later in the day, delivering competitive pairings and standout performances. Braden Beachy, a 2024 semifinalist, edged John Sizemore in 19 holes. Brett Eley posted a 3-and-2 win over Ian Friesner, earning a showdown with Tyler Breidenbach on Saturday.

Roman Leszinske pulled ahead by two in his match and will now face defending champion Zach Miller in the next round. Brady Schroeder cruised to a 4-and-3 victory, while Kayne Richardson dominated in an 8-and-3 win over Pat Stolly.

Zach Stechschulte nearly sank a long putt on 17, securing a 4-and-3 win in his opening match. Todd Burkholder rounded out the day with a solid tap-in finish to move on to Saturday’s round of 16 at Bluffton Golf Club, with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m.

The field now shifts to Bluffton as the chase for the 2025 city crown continues.
