SPENCERVILLE, Ohio (WLIO) — Spencerville held off Jefferson 48–46 on Tuesday night in a girls basketball matchup that featured lead changes throughout.
Jefferson took a brief lead in the second quarter when sophomore Brylee Geary hit a deep three-pointer, putting the Wildcats ahead by two heading into a timeout.
Spencerville responded moments later. Senior Lenna Smith knocked down a corner jumper to push the Bearcats back in front by one.
The game remained tight in the second half. Jefferson senior Kyah Kimmet drove into the lane for a basket and drew a foul, completing the three-point play to bring the Jeffcats within 29–28.
But Spencerville closed strong. Briley Cook, the Bearcats’ 6-foot-2 center, scored inside late in the game to help secure the win.
Spencerville improved its record with the two-point victory, while Jefferson fell just short after a competitive effort on the road.
