ST. HENRY, Ohio (WLIO) — A Midwest Athletic Conference championship was on the line as Versailles traveled to St. Henry for the regular season finale of Girls Night Out.
Both teams entered the night at 7-1 in MAC play, with the Tigers sitting at 14-5 overall and the Redskins at an impressive 20-1.
It was tight from the start.
St. Henry senior Molly Wendel grabbed her own miss and converted the second-chance opportunity to give the Redskins a 6-5 lead after one quarter.
In the second, Versailles answered. Katey Litten came up with a steal and finished through contact for the hoop and the harm. The Thomas More University commit poured in a game-high 22 points to keep the Tigers within striking distance. Versailles trailed by just one at halftime.
Morgan Baumer led St. Henry offensively with 13 points, knocking down a key three-pointer as the Redskins tried to create separation.
In the second half, Wendel added another bucket inside, helping St. Henry withstand a late Versailles push. The Tigers had led by as many as eight in the fourth quarter but in the end, St. Henry surged back for a 40-37 victory, securing its third straight MAC championship.
