DELPHOS, Ohio (WLIO) — St. John’s boys basketball is off to a strong start, improving to 2–0 after a 62–42 win over Elida, highlighted by a milestone moment from senior star Cameron Elwer.

The Bulldogs came out strong early. Jonathan Payne attacked the lane in the first quarter, finishing through contact as Elida went on to lead 12-11 after one. But the Blue Jays struck back in the second behind their veteran scorer.

Elwer pulled up from deep and buried a three to put St. John’s ahead by two. Moments later, he set up his cousin Easton Elwer, who drilled a corner triple of his own. The sophomore added 13 points as the Blue Jays began to stretch their lead.

Elida tried to keep pace. Down 10, Marcus Hill converted the hoop and the harm to give the Bulldogs a spark, but St. John’s continued to control the momentum.

Late in the half, the crowd rose as Cameron Elwer stepped to the line after being fouled on a drive. His free throw not only extended the Blue Jays’ advantage — it also allowed him to reach 2,000-point mark for his career. The Furman commit finished the night with a game-high 29 points.

St. John’s closed out the second half with steady defensive pressure and timely shooting to secure the 20-point win, keeping their perfect start intact.
