ELIDA, Ohio (WLIO) — Delphos St. John’s Blue Jays needed extra innings, but they stayed unbeaten with an 8-6 win over the Elida Bulldogs at Ed Sandy Field.
St. John’s wasted no time getting on the board in the opening inning. Braden Lindeman delivered an RBI single to left, scoring Logan Duncan to give the Blue Jays an early 2-0 advantage.
Elida responded in the bottom half of the first after falling behind 3-0. Colton Graham ripped a two-run double into right-center, bringing home Gabe Miley and Ben Adcock to cut the deficit to one.
Defensively, the Blue Jays came up with a key play in the second inning, as Drake Fittro made a sliding grab in foul territory to end the frame and preserve the lead.
The Bulldogs continued to battle, while both teams got strong efforts on the mound. Adcock struck out the side in the third inning, while St. John’s pitcher Aiden Swick answered with a strikeout of his own to keep the momentum in check.
In a back-and-forth contest, neither side could pull away, sending the game into extra innings. That’s where St. John’s found the edge, pushing across the go-ahead runs before holding off Elida to secure the 8-6 victory in eight innings.
With the win, St. John’s improves to 5-0 on the season, while Elida falls to 3-4.
