A prayer vigil was held in downtown Bluffton Friday night for Dominic Francis. The 42-year-old Bluffton Police Officer was remembered for not only his service to the department, but as a man that stepped up to help in any way he could, including helping coach football and wrestling at his alma mater, Cory-Rawson, or be a substitute teacher at the school during the pandemic. Hours before he was killed, Francis, who was also a volunteer firefighter, assisted Bluffton University students who had to evacuate their dorm, after a fire alarm went off and helped them get back in when it was all clear.

You can tell he touched many lives by the hundreds of people who came out to grieve his loss.

“If anybody is willing to put others before themselves, I call that integrity and I call that a blessed person,” says Pastor Bob Clinger, of Bluffton 1st UMC. “So, he was that type of person that was here to serve, protect, and to care for and it speaks wonders of how great of a man he truly was.”
