ALLEN COUNTY (WLIO) - Recent changes at the Allen County Sheriff's Department seem to be working.
Sheriff Matt Treglia gave an update to Allen County commissioners on the equitable wage increases that were given to the union staffing at the sheriff's office. He says that they are doing what they were meant to do. They have been able to retain employees and have even attracted and hired new staff.
"We have actually been able to start hiring more deputies," stated Sheriff Matt Treglia. "We've hired up to four at this point and the correction staff is almost completely full staffed at this point."
Medical care has also recently changed. It's now provided by an independent outside service and the sheriff says it is going well.
"It's been a great transition. We're right up to staff that we need and everybody seems to be getting the care or better care than they were," added Treglia.
The sheriff says with the recent hires they are now in a place they can concentrate on hiring additional quality candidates.
