BLUFFTON, Ohio (WLIO) — Bluffton University is assessing its next steps after their canceled merger with the University of Findlay.

Interim President Dr. Alex Sider acknowledged that the university entered the merger with the understanding that many higher education mergers across the country do not reach completion.

Dr. Sider said the university has learned a great deal during the past year of the merger process and plans to use that knowledge to make informed strategic decisions moving forward. With spring graduation approaching and the future in focus, Dr. Sider emphasized that Bluffton University has much to offer current and incoming students.

"The very small, private liberal arts residential experience with our beautiful campus, we have engaged faculty who are working with every student on an individual basis," said Dr. Sider. "We of course have many, many of our students come to us for athletic participation and we take students from all backgrounds. We move them forward to their educational goals, and we have a fantastic track record of doing that."

He also stated that Bluffton does not foresee pursuing another merger with any other university in the near future.
