LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Lima 6th Ward Councilman Derry Glenn wants the public to know about an upcoming dinner to commemorate the late Civil Rights activist and Congressman John Lewis.

The dinner will take place on February 28th at 5 pm inside The City Club in Downtown Lima. The night will also include speeches from a local pastor and kids as well as teaching everyone the importance of their voting rights. Before serving as Georgia's 5th District Representative from 1987 until his passing in 2020, Congressman Lewis fought for civil rights of Black Americans. He led several famous movements including the Freedom Rides, the 1963 March on Washington, and the Marches from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. Fast forward to today, Glenn wants to have this dinner to keep John Lewis' legacy alive.

“We want everybody to come out for this. You know, John Lewis loved everybody. This isn't about black, white, purple, orange- we want everybody to come out to get educated. It is going to affect all of us, and this is what John Lewis would loved about it. He was there to be a trailblazer and continued to fight for the rights of us, for voting rights and the way we live in the United States of America,” says Derry Glenn, Lima 6th Ward Councilman.

As a reminder, the John Lewis dinner is set for Friday, February 28th inside The City Club in Downtown Lima. The dinner starts at 5 pm with a cost of $10. All are invited to attend.
