LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - The Lima Area Youth Orchestra holding a concert for the young and young at heart.
Students and parents from all over the area were in the audience for the annual Children's Concert at the Civic Center Wednesday morning. The Lima Area Youth Orchestra is made up of almost 70 students from second graders all the way up to seniors preparing for college. The Children's Concert is a tradition every year to perform in front of young students and not only put on a show for them, but also maybe inspire them to pursue their own musical passions.Â
For the musicians in the youth orchestra, the experience of playing in front of their parents and community is priceless.
For the musicians in the youth orchestra, the experience of playing in front of their parents and community is priceless.
"A lot of times both at our schools and within this orchestra, we have the opportunity to perform for our parents and everyone else's parents and this is a really unique chance where we get to perform for people who haven't heard us practicing in our rooms a million times and get outside opinions," said Kyla Fallis, a senior at Bath High School.
"I think music education for children is important and getting exposure to seeing other people play is super super important because it makes them say, 'oh I want to do this,' and so it gives them that spark to kind of do that in the future," said Trinity Schumacher, a senior at Shawnee High School.
And it's not just the kids in the audience and the musicians that get a kick out of the concert.
"One of the things that I really love to do for the children's concert is I was like, let's just go have fun with it, let's make it a nice program, let's have some flow in there and let's just go out and have fun," said director Joseph MacBenn. "I think that audience enjoys that, and I think that the kids on stage enjoy it. If the kids on stage know that the kids out in the audience are learning from that, they usually pick up more, so it's just a great experience all around."
