LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and 1 in 8 women will develop the disease in their lifetime.

Thursday afternoon, supporters gathered for a breast cancer awareness event to let people know: you’re not alone. Now in its third year, the “Celebration of Life” event, hosted by The Ritz of Lima, featured vendors, oncology resources and community support—aimed at educating and honoring those impacted by cancer.

Kathy Kahle has been helping women through their cancer journeys for over a decade, and she said today was about hope.

This year’s event also highlighted childhood cancer, with funds going to local families whose kids are currently in treatment.

“We’re not sad today. We’re celebrating today. So we are admiring the fighters, we are supporting the survivors, and we’re honoring the taken too soon,” said Kahle, owner of The Ritz.

Local organizations offered tools for navigating life during and after treatment. This year’s event also highlighted childhood cancer, with funds going to local families whose kids are currently in treatment.
