LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - The next time you walk into the Lima Family YMCA, you might notice a difference in the landscaping out front. That's all thanks to Connor Vondrell and Troop 777.

Connor is the senior patrol leader of his troop and chose to update the YMCA's landscaping as his Eagle Scout project. Over the last few weeks, Connor and Troop 777 completely removed all of the old bushes and plants and then laid new top soil, plants and river rock in the front of the YMCA.

Lima Family YMCA receives landscaping facelift as part of Eagle Scout project

Connor has been going to the Lima YMCA for as long as he can remember and he wanted to give back to a place that's given so much to him.

"After looking around for an Eagle Scout project for a while, I ended up at the Y because I've been involved in the Y, or in some shape or form basically as far as I can remember for swim lessons and then swim team," said Vondrell. "When I came to the Y, I wanted to do something for them, and Jared Lehman, the president gave me the idea of doing all of this. It was the first idea that actually sparked an interest."

The finishing touch on Connor's Eagle Scout project will be four large engraved rocks placed in the front of the Y. Connor hopes to achieve his Eagle Scout status by the end of July.
