LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Lima chapter of the NAACP will hold a special event this Saturday to celebrate Black History Month.

The chapter is inviting the public to attend a panel discussion titled “Then vs. Now — What Has Changed,” which will explore cultural changes in the Lima area from the Civil Rights Movement to today. The panel will feature civil rights activists who participated in the 1965 Selma-to-Montgomery march, providing insight into the past and connecting it to present-day generations.

The chapter is inviting the public to attend a panel discussion.

"I think it could be beneficial, because I think we're in a similar time now where we the people, are going to have to stand up and fight for the good of all the people so we don't return back to who we were. It is not time to go backwards, it's time to go forward. So if they can't see what we was and what we became, how do they know what we can be? So I think all demographics have to be involved," said Ron Fails, NAACP Lima chapter president.

The “Then vs. Now” forum will take place on Saturday, Feb. 22, at Grace Ministries Church, located at 2945 Wells Drive on Lima’s east side.

The event begins at 11 a.m. and will include a film presentation by Lima native James Williamson.

The event is free and open to the public. Food and refreshments will be provided.
