LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — A hidden gem in downtown Lima has introduced a new program for families with young children.
The first Family Play and Support Group event took place at the Lima YWCA on West High Street. The playgroup welcomes children of all abilities and provides a space for them to explore and socialize while offering parents an opportunity to learn about local resources.

“It’s going to be on the third Friday of each month from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., and siblings are welcome,” said Marcy Jett, Parent & Youth Ambassador for the YWCA. “I know, I’m a single mom of three kids. So you have to have a zero to three-year-old, but if you have siblings that are older than that, that’s fine if they come too. We’ll try to do some sort of activity. It’s mostly just about parents supporting parents and kids finding adults they can trust to be around and socializing with other kids.”
The program is a collaboration between the YWCA Child Care Resource and Referral, the Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities, and Help Me Grow. In addition to the playgroup, the YWCA offers a toy library, allowing families to check out age-appropriate toys and games for their children, much like borrowing books from a library.
