LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - If you could make a difference in a child's life, would you?
Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Central Ohio hopes you will, as January is National Mentoring Month. For more than 40 years, the organization has been matching "Bigs" with "Littles" in Lima and Allen County. Mentoring can be as little as four hours per month or more, during which you build a relationship, get to know the child, and provide a positive influence in their life.
In addition to adult mentors, Big Brothers Big Sisters also has a program for high school students, pairing them with elementary and middle school students.

"The impact that you can see the kiddos get excited just to meet their big. So they can hang out and talk and just have that person there just wanting to encourage them and do better in school or in life in general. It really is life changing for them," said Portia Smith, executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Central Ohio.
The organization will host an appreciation dinner on February 14, 2025, to thank everyone who supports the program. The public is invited to attend. For tickets or more information, contact Big Brothers Big Sisters at 419-222-8500.
