LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - The Lima Post for the Ohio State Highway Patrol opened their doors to the public on Tuesday.

The Lima Post and Van Wert Post partnered to hold an open house, allowing community members and residents to stop in and learn more about them. Those who attended could tour the post, learn more about the day-to-day life of a state trooper, and get to know the officers who serve in their communities.

There was also a sign-up sheet for those interested in joining the state highway patrol pursuing a career in law enforcement.

"What drew me to being a state trooper is I really like working with the communities and helping people and being able to make a difference in someone's life," said Sgt. Dana Skinner of the Van Wert Post. "Whether it's changing a tire or even writing that possible speed ticket to slow them down and possibly save a life in the process, it's important for people to see both us out on the road when we are enforcing the law and then us as actual human beings. People forget that we are actually human beings too, and we have a nice side when need be."
