LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Republican candidates in Ohio’s governor’s race are gearing up for the upcoming election year.
Ohio Senate President and Rob McColley, the lieutenant governor running mate of Vivek Ramaswamy, stopped by Hometown Stations to discuss their campaign priorities.
McColley said one of their main focuses will be energy production, including building new power plants to meet the state’s growing electricity demands and utilizing Ohio’s natural gas reserves to fuel those facilities.
Another key priority, he said, is investing in job training programs for both students and adults to address workforce needs, as well as reducing the state income tax so Ohioans can keep more of their earnings.
“Vivek Ramaswamy and I have both been very vocal about our need to continue to chip away at Ohio's income tax. When you look at the states that are growing the most right now, they're states that have very low or no income tax. Ohio needs to continue its work in that regard,” says Rob McColley, Vivek Ramaswamy Lt. Gov. running mate.
McColley also said the campaign supports giving parents more authority in choosing the best educational options for their children and improving student readiness in the classroom.
“We need to reinstitute strict standards in our school system regarding literacy and math and science education to make sure that we're not advancing students simply for the sake of keeping them moving up through the grades,” adds McColley.
McColley said he and Ramaswamy plan to travel across the state in the coming months to speak with voters about their platform.
