LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — With summer temperatures expected to rise, the West Ohio Community Action Partnership is reminding residents that assistance is available to help households stay cool during the hottest months of the year.

The Summer Crisis Program begins Wednesday, July 1, and runs through September. The program provides a one-time benefit to eligible individuals and families to help offset cooling-related expenses. Assistance may include electric utility assistance, central air conditioning repairs and financial assistance toward the purchase of an air conditioner.

To qualify, applicants must meet income eligibility requirements and meet at least one of the following criteria: have a household member age 60 or older, have a physician-documented medical condition that requires air conditioning, have received a disconnect notice, have already been disconnected from service or be attempting to establish new utility service.

Residents interested in applying must schedule a phone appointment with the agency by calling (419) 516-0063. Officials encourage eligible residents to apply early to ensure they receive assistance before temperatures peak later in the summer.
