LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – Members of the local Rotary Club came together Saturday morning to lend a helping hand at the West Ohio Food Bank.
Instead of holding a district-wide conference, District 6600—which represents all of northwest Ohio—chose to host service events in each of the four areas that make up the district. The Southwest Quadrant, which includes Rotary clubs in West Central Ohio, embraced the Rotary motto “Service Above Self” by assisting the food bank with a variety of projects, such as boxing up food and performing yard work.
The Southwest Quadrant embraced the Rotary motto “Service Above Self” by assisting the food bank with a variety of projects.
“Some of the projects that you know, with a small staff, we're not always able to get to right away, like the weeding, the mowing, so there's a lot of members that are out there doing those jobs, but also they've brought food donations and hygiene donations to us today, and then a lot of them have made monetary donations. So it's just a really great partnership, and we're so thankful that they have come and volunteered their time with us,” said Tommie Harner, CEO of the West Ohio Food Bank.
“Rotary is kind of the place to be if you want to do service and make some friends along the way. We're a social and a service organization. We've been around in Northwest Ohio for 100 years, and this is what we do, and we have some fun doing it,” said Tim Ryan, governor of Rotary District 6600.
More than 70 Rotarians and their family members participated in the service event at the West Ohio Food Bank.
