A Delphos man has been sentenced to life in prison with the chance for parole after 15 years in the fatal shooting of a coal executive at a West Virginia cemetery.
22-year-old Anthony Arriaga was sentenced Tuesday in West Virginia court on the charges of first-degree murder, first-degree robbery and two counts of conspiracy in the May 2016 death of Ben Hatfield.
Following the shooting Arriaga fled to Delphos where local law enforcement arrested him and he was extradited back to West Virginia to face the murder charge.
Hatfield, the ex-CEO and president of Patriot Coal, was visiting his wife's grave when, according to testimony, Arriaga and Brandon Fitzpatrick of Kentucky planned to steal Hatfield's SUV and sell it for parts and ended up killing him.
Fitzpatrick is set to be sentenced January 18, 2018.
