Balloon Ceremony in to Wrap Up Autism Month

As a way to wrap up April's Autism Awareness Month, the center for autism and dyslexia held a balloon releasing ceremony. The theme of the balloon release was Superheroes to let students know they are capable of achieving their goals. Officials with the Autism Center in Lima, say there's a stigma around the disorder they are trying to change. According to the Centers for Disease Control, one in sixty-eight children in the United States have autism.

"We just really want this kids to after they graduate from school be able to advocate for themselves and realize that they are capable of following their dreams and this just allows them to really analyze and know exactly what they're capable of," said Tyler Burklund, administrator for The Center of Autism and Dyslexia in Lima.

Each student wrote something that made them special or a unique strength on a piece of paper and attached it to the balloons before they were released.
