Creating a healthy community is the goal of a health and wellness expo this weekend.
Bridging the Gap is holding their annual event to improve the access of health care to those who are under served. More than 40 vendors will be on hand to help educate people on the resources available and provide health screenings. New this year will be a sickle cell screening.
The 2017 Allen County Community Health Needs assessment showed that 37% of adults have not visited a physician in the past year and that 5% are without health coverage. There will be providers on hand that can help with that.
"Several health care organizations are willing, you know, to do screenings and then if you need something and further workup they've got opportunities to help you get into providers that can help see what's going on with you to find out, to try and keep you healthy," said Cheryl Nagy, Bridging the Gap Health and Wellness Expo.
The Health and Wellness Expo is this Saturday, April 6th from 10 a.m. to noon at Lima Senior High School cafeteria. There will be informational booths, screenings, demonstrations, and door prizes. Former Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals, and University of Toledo quarterback Bruce Gradkowski will be speaking about making healthy choices.
The event is free and open to the public.
