LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and Crime Victim Services' Day One program is collaborating with several Lima businesses.
Depending on the business, they may have a special menu item, donate a percentage of funds to the Day One program, or have information available to increase awareness. They were at the Bradfield Community Center for their second annual "Pound and Paint" event, where the community could join them in cardio drumming and umbrella painting. It's an easy way for them to get information and resources out for an intimidating topic.
"So this is just a different way to put the information out there that's not as intimidating. Come out. Have some fun. We have some information that you can just kind of browse and at least start to have the conversation. So it helps kind of break that barrier of a subject that is really scary," said Rebecca Peckinpaugh, Day One director with Crime Victim Services.
