Daylight Saving Time ending brings changes to sleeping habits

Lima, OH (WLIO) - Daylight saving time is coming to a close this weekend which means our sleep schedule will be changing, but how many of us are actually getting quality sleep? Sunday night when daylight saving time officially ends, people will turn their clocks to fall back and gain an hour of sleep. The extra hour of sleep is beneficial, but some sleeping routines are disrupted by chronic sleeping issues and poor sleeping habits. During this time there are a few things folks can take into account and be prepared for to ensure a good night's rest.

Daylight Saving Time ending brings changes to sleeping habits

"Do not change your clocks back until you're ready to go to bed. Go to bed at the same time, and then best to set your alarm for Sunday morning at the same time as you usually get up on Sunday morning. Use this opportunity with the extra hour of sleep to start thinking of good sleep hygiene. Work on getting to bed earlier, setting a consistent sleep/wake time. Make rest a priority." commented Sharon Steele, a board-certified clinical nurse practitioner at Lima Memorial Sleep Center.

According to the Sleep Foundation, more than one-third of adults get less than 7 hours of sleep per night on average. If you're having any issues with your sleep, you can reach out to the Lima Memorial Sleep Center for help.
