According to the Putnam County Sentinel, the bizarre case involving the assault of a retired Catholic priest by a mentally ill woman in Ottawa has been resolved.
Judge Randall Basinger ordered 66-year-old Frances Wilhelm to be institutionalized at Northwest Ohio Psychiatric Hospital for up to six months for ongoing evaluation and treatment. On March 1st, Wilhelm was found not guilty by reason of insanity in the assault on Father Herman Scherger. Wilhelm attacked the former priest with a hammer at his home in Cloverdale.
Wilhelm previously faced charges of attempted murder and felonious assault.
