Most students and faculty dread having to ride on the bus, but a new electric bus might just change that.
The nation's first all electric bus rolled into Findlay to show off its multiple features. Students riding this bus would not have to shout over a load diesel engine or inhale its exhaust. The electric bus would also help the community by decreasing pollution and keep gas prices competitive. Right now, the electric bus cost $220,000, compared to a diesel run bus which cost anywhere between $90,000 to $100,000.
Even though the initial cost are high, the electric bus only cost seven to nine dollars a day to run. Compared to recent soaring diesel prices, it gives the school districts something to think about. Despite available grant money, no schools in Hancock county have made a purchase. Even though prices are high, schools are looking forward to all the benefits the electric bus has to offer.
Education officials in the Hancock County area hope to get there hands on the electric bus by spring or fall of 2013.
