ST. MARYS, OHIO (WLIO) - The St. Marys Goodfellows continue a long-running tradition of making sure that people in their area have a very Merry Christmas.

For over 50 years, the Goodfellows have been making Christmas brighter for St. Marys families

Volunteers at the Noble Township Community Center were working like a well-oiled machine Christmas Eve morning to help pack up food and gifts for over 300 families in their community. Many school and community organizations contribute funds to purchase the items that are given out. The Goodfellows program has been helping families for over 50 years, and they are happy that St. Marys residents have always stepped up to continue the tradition of giving.

“All of us here that are workers now are just continuing on the legacy of those that began a wonderful tradition. It just warms your heart. The community shows up every year to deliver. The students show up to help with each of the tasks. It’s just great to be a St. Marys community member and to know that our community supports everyone so well,” says Renee Caywood, Goodfellows.

Some St. Marys students gave up some of their Christmas break to help others in their school district.

Organizers say it is a blessing to have everyone involved to continue to make sure the Christmas is bright for people around St. Marys.

“I really love doing this stuff. I try and make it a big point for me to help people in need this time of year,” says Owen Bubp, a volunteer.

“It feels good to help the community and help people in need. I've personally never been in that situation, so I don’t know what it feels like. But it’s nice to know that I am helping people,” says Ollie Chisholm, a volunteer.

“This is my first time doing community service hours, and it feels really good to help people and be out here with friends doing it,” says Damian Webb, a volunteer.
