Eighth graders at Heir Force pitched in on Tuesday afternoon to help load the more than 10,000 items that have been collected by the school over the last two weeks. That number doubles the goal that the school set for the food drive. All of the non-perishable items will be going to the Neighborhood Relief Thrift Store this year.

While helping people in need is the main reason for this ongoing fundraiser, the school also wants to teach their students about empathy and caring for the community, and that lesson has certainly stuck with these kids.

"COVID and just everything is going on, there’s a whole lot of bad things going around, and families are struggling through this crisis - it’s just a great thing to give support to them," said Isaac Grundis.

"It makes me feel proud of myself, because we’ve been doing this for several years and just knowing that we can help people through little things and have an impact on them is really powerful," said Deanna Callahan.

The school has been able to donate more than 50,000 non-perishable items over the last few years.
