The Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District wants to draw kids outdoors with their Imaginature Playgroup!
The group will meet once each month during the summer at Hermon Woodlands. The day starts out with a mini-program, and today the kids learned all about snakes. The park naturalist brought along a live corn snake for the kids to check out. After the mini-program it was time to play as the kids explored the playscape and creek. The Imaginature Playscape offers a variety of fun from rock climbing to a rope swing to an underground tunnel.Â
"Studies show that it's so important for children and adults to be outside in nature. It is good to get the fresh air, the vitamin D that the sun provides for us and the exercise. Just being in a natural environment is so important," says JAMPD Naturalist Beth Theisen.
Along with the playscape, Hermon Woodlands offers a storybook trail with a new story added each season. The next playgroup is scheduled for July 21st, followed by August 18th. The program is free for kids and parents to come and enjoy nature.
