LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Safety City Summer Academy is celebrating a successful season.
Parents and instructors watched proudly as the children earned their certificates and bags of completion at the ceremony.
This week marked the end of this year's academy, filled with important lessons and activities at Safety City. Hundreds of kids have graduated with new skills to protect them from potentially dangerous scenarios. This interactive experience offers spots for 360 kids this summer, which filled up in under three hours this past spring.

The kids leave with both new friends and important lessons for life.
"With the large group, it's a lot of fun; the more, the merrier, I say. To me, that's important. It fulfills them at best and means people like the program, and we want them to come. The more kids, the better. You know it's all about teaching them safety so that they know what to do if a bad person comes up to them and tries to trick them or tries to take them, whether they do a high hammer or a kick, something to help them get away from that bad person," said Officer Eric Mericle, Safety City.
