Monday through Thursday you can find a white van in several locations in the city passing out food. They are hitting areas where the children may not be able to get to the Summer Food Programs at the schools. The food bags are provided by the Children’s Hunger Alliance here in Lima and the school is distributing them. It has been a slow start with the food truck but they hope it will pick up as more people learn about it.

John Music, Assistant Supervisor of Food Services at Lima City Schools, explains, “This is a shelf-stable meal. It’s got your fruit your vegetable, your milk, your proteins, it’s got everything in this package. There is no sign-up and it’s completely free. If they see us in these two sets of apartments, feel free to come up to these vans and we’ll give it to them.”

They make stops at the Lima West apartments on North Cole Street at 11:30 am and the Brower Maplewood Apartments on Brower Road at noon. They are trying to have vans at Lincoln and MLK parks at 11 am as well.
