LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Lima City Schools host another International Resource Fair for their non-English speaking students and their families Friday evening.

The fair provides an opportunity for students enrolled in the English Learning Development Program to explore various community resources available, including The Language Tutoring Academy, Health Partners of Western Ohio, The Salvation Army, and much more. The fair also allowed students and families to connect with one another and enjoy dinner, raffles, games, and various activities. According to event organizers, there has been a significant increase in the number of non-English-speaking students, so having the fair is paramount to ensure all families have as many resources as possible to ensure their child succeeds.

"We have over doubled from last year, so we have a lot of new students that were not here last year. So this year, they will be able to be here for the resource fair," says Jeanette Weaver, EL Teacher, Lima City Schools.

"With the language barrier, it's hard for these families to know and find the different resources available to them in the community, so our goal is to show to them what's available, make it easier for them to collect information on where to go," says Emmarie Rolon-Colon, District Bilingual Liaison, Lima City Schools.

The English Learning Development Program offers students individualized accommodations and interventions until proficiency in English has been achieved.
