Columbus Grove rallies late to edge top-ranked Miller City

MILLER CITY, Ohio (WLIO) — A marquee matchup lived up to the hype as the top-ranked team in Division VII, Miller City, squared off with Division VI’s sixth-ranked Columbus Grove.
In the opening quarter, Columbus Grove's Kendal Palte attacked the lane for a basket. The senior finished with 17 points for the Bulldogs.
Miller City as freshman Sophia Ruck knocked down a jumper from the charity stripe. Those points were part of a game-high 21-point performance, giving the Wildcats a two-point edge.
The Wildcats continued to build momentum in the second quarter on the fast break. Elizabeth Erford found Anna Lammers for an open three, pushing Miller City ahead 15–13.
Columbus Grove trailed by nine in the fourth quarter but mounted a late comeback. Lydia Sarka delivered a crucial and-one to help swing momentum back to the Bulldogs.
Grove escaped with a 55–54 win thanks to a three-pointer at the buzzer courtesy of freshman Brynn Calvelage.
The Bulldogs improved to 13–2 on the season, while the Wildcats dropped to 13-2.
