A 12-year-old Lima girl diagnosed with Leukemia back in 2014 is now in remission and continuing to fight for the health of others.
Lauren Cunningham held her 6th blood drive in honor of her name at the Allen County American Red Cross chapter house. The Bath Elementary student has received more than 80 blood transfusions during her treatment and understands the need for blood to be consistently available to those who need it. To date five blood drives held in Lauren's honor have brought in 278 blood donations, in her 6th drive, she reached her goal of 350. After Lauren's experience, she said she wants to grow up to be a philanthropist and continue to help people.
The American Red Cross is currently seeing a severe winter blood shortage, and right now blood products are being distributed faster than donations are coming in. Lauren says if you missed this one, there are drives twice a week at the Allen County Red Cross chapter house.
