Lima Public Library gives young kids the chance to make music

Normally libraries are quiet, but Wednesday at the Lima Public Library, kids were showing off their musical talents.

Through the “Wee Make Music” event, children from birth to kindergarten were given the opportunity to have fun and socialize as they listened to the ocean and summer-themed songs as they made a little music themselves. The event consisted of children playing musical instruments like bells, tambourines, and maracas, as well as some singing and dancing.

“Music has been shown to help children with all kinds of development from motor skills to speech development/language development. And music is fun, so we find that a lot of children that are shy take to the music classes,” says Jennifer Dziabiak, Children’s Librarian. “They love to play with the instruments, and they’ll kind of come out of their shell when they get to sing, and they hear the music.”

Another “Wee Make Music” event will be held on August 10th at 10:30 a.m. For more information, you can visit the library’s website at www.limalibrary.com.
