Held at the Vibe Coffeehouse on Market Street, officers were able to sit down and have casual conversations with the people they protect and serve.

The department says that the event allows them to get important information about the neighborhood.

"I get a lot of tips, actually. Crime tips, some quality of life tips, they say parking is an issue here... there are speeders here... here's a drug house," said Aaron Rode of the Lima Police Department. "Stuff that people won't generally call an officer to tell, but they have an opportunity to see me in a more casual setting, more apt to give me information."

"Again, we want to be a little bit ahead of the curb," explained Kevin Martin, Lima Police Chief. "Engaging the community, talking with the community, and again, listening to the community. Which is even more important than talking with the community. We want to be able to listen."
