ST. MARYS, OH (WLIO) - The Lima Symphony Orchestra had a concert in a smaller, more historic venue than usual on Sunday.

The symphony's "Music By Candlelight" at the Grand Opera House in St. Marys featured elegant songs written for smaller venues and orchestras, several of them highlighting the sounds of woodwind instruments. The scaled-down performance, audience size, and dim lighting created a more intimate mood than their typical shows. Besides playing different types of music than usual, the symphony is most excited about getting to perform for a new audience.

"I think exposure to music is really the most important thing, especially for young people, and a lot of communities outside of what you might call "larger cities" don't have symphony orchestras. And so, I think it's our responsibility to try and bring this music to people. It's not enough to hear it as a recording, you really have to hear it live," said Andrew Crust, the maestro and music director of the LSO.
The Lima Symphony Orchestra is back at the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center on February 4th with a superhero-themed concert for families.
