LIMA, Ohio — City of Lima crews have been busy responding to dozens of calls about frozen water lines as an arctic blast grips the area.

City of Lima Crews Respond to Dozens of Frozen Water Lines Amid Arctic Blast

Residents who discover their water line is frozen at the meter pit are encouraged to contact the City of Lima Utilities Department.

Crews are working diligently to meet the demand from water customers who find themselves without water. Officials say there appears to be no pattern to the freezing lines, with many residents reporting frozen pipes for the first time. Crews have been handling multiple calls over the past three days.

“We have nine crews—two-person crews—thawing out water main freeze-ups, and that’s a lot. We haven’t had this many for a long time,” said Mike Caprella, director of utilities for the City of Lima. “We have had worse, I do remember that, but we’re keeping up. Customers don’t have to wait too long for us to get out there. Some lines we can thaw quickly, while others take a little bit longer.”

Residents who discover their water line is frozen at the meter pit are encouraged to contact the City of Lima Utilities Department at 419-222-9761 for assistance.
