Governor Mike DeWine awarded more than $4.7 million to law enforcement agencies to get or upgrade body-worn cameras for their officers.
There were a total of 109 agencies to get grant money. 49 of them will be using the grant money to start the body-worn camera program at their departments. Of those 49, the Auglaize County Sheriff's Office received $67,530.00, the Bellefontaine Police Department got $79,650.00, and the Logan County Sheriff's Office attained $46,206.00.Â
The other 60, including the Mercer County Sheriff's Office, got $43,832.46 and will be upgrading their body-worn camera systems for their deputies. The grant program was put in the state budget last year to start in 2022. A total of $10 million have been budgeted for two years, the rest of the funding will be awarded next year.
