More news out of the Lima mayor’s office as a long-time department head announces his retirement.
Public Works Director Howard Elstro is retiring after 32-years of service to the City of Lima. He has held that office since February of 1990 when appointed by former Mayor David Berger. During his tenure there have been dozens of major projects that have been completed including both the Elm Street and Vine Street Grade Separations, Lima Stadium Park, downtown Lima streetscape improvements and signal synchronizations just to list a few. Elstro says he couldn’t have accomplished any of them without the help of others that he will always be grateful for.
Elstro goes on to say, “I think most rewarding is the number of people we have hired and brought together in the public works department over the years that have been committed to the citizens and improving the quality of life for this community.”
Elstro’s last day will be February 28th. Mayor Smith says she is actively looking for his replacement.
