Each and every day law enforcement officers put their life on the line. On Tuesday, officers from across the region were recognized for their efforts in making sure drivers are safe.

The Allen, Hardin and Putnam County Mothers Against Drunk Driving chapter hosted the Top Cop Award banquet at the Old Barn Out Back. The officers recognized made a total of over 200 OVI arrests in 2018.

Every year the chapter recognizes officers like these who make the most OVI arrests in their departments. Lima police officer Scott Luedeke was one of the officers awarded the top cop award for making 45 OVI arrests. He said is grateful for the recognition because he is able to keep the roads safe.

“It’s a great honor to go out there and give OVI arrests,” said Luedeke. “It really saves people’s lives and prevents serious injury accidents and being invited here and being appreciated every year is a nice thing to have.”

The MADD coordinator says it’s important to host these events because they are helping save lives.

“They go out and rescue our lives every day for us and we just want to tell them thank you,” said Pam Styer, MADD coordinator. “Thank you for getting the OVI people off the roads, keeping us safer. For each person they arrest, they’re saving at least one life.”
