CELINA, Ohio (WLIO) — Ten people, including eight minors, were injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday night in Celina.
The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened around 9 p.m. at the intersection of state Route 29 and Riley Road. Investigators say a 17-year-old driver from Celina failed to stop at a stop sign on Riley Road and struck a Honda Odyssey traveling eastbound on state Route 29.
The teen driver, his juvenile passenger and 40-year-old Emily Vaubel of Botkins are believed to have suffered serious injuries. They were transported to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys. The Honda Odyssey was driven by 42-year-old Ryan Vaubel of Botkins. His wife, five children between the ages of 10 and 16, and a 17-year-old friend were also inside the vehicle. All seven passengers were taken to Mercer County Community Hospital in Coldwater.
Authorities say all occupants were wearing seat belts except for three juveniles in the Odyssey. Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be factors. The 17-year-old driver is expected to be cited for failure to stop at a stop sign. The crash remains under investigation.
