LIMA, OH (WLIO) -Â Every 40 seconds in America, someone has a stroke, and doctors say around 80% of all of them are preventable.
So, as part of Stroke Awareness Month, Mercy Health-St. Rita's has created an online quiz to see if you are at a high or low risk of having a stroke. The quiz will ask for some general information, like age and family history, and about some preventable factors, like smoking, activity level, and regular doctor checkups. Once you know your risk level, it will give you suggestions for your next step to lower or maintain your risk level.
"So, it will actually contact, or give you the option to contact one of our physicians here at Mercy Health. So you can get a quicker appointment, so you can get these things taken care of," says Stacy Young, Neuroscience Clinical Manager, Mercy Health-St. Ritas. "Stroke is not quite as well known, symptom-wise, as our heart attacks are, and it's really important to know those risk factors, which are somewhat the same as the heart. So, it shouldn't be a difficult kind of thing to recognize."
