WAPAKONETA, OH (WLIO) - Area fire departments were busy late Thursday afternoon after a blaze broke out at a rubber processing plant in Wapakoneta.
Wapakoneta firefighters, with the help of several local departments, were called to Midwest Elastomers on Industrial Drive just before 6 o'clock after an equipment malfunction led to a fire in a heating unit. The blaze started just about six feet from the ceiling, and flames were quickly spotted coming through the roof.
There were no injuries, and there were a couple dozen firefighters on the scene.
Plant officials say some of the plant's equipment will need to be replaced, and the manufacturing line that was impacted will likely be shut down for about a month and moved to other lines at the facility.
