NEW BREMEN, OH (WLIO) -Â The longest-running picnic in Auglaize County returns yet for another year Friday in New Bremen!
Since 1921, the firemen's picnic has been a chance for the New Bremen German Township Fire Department to connect with the community they serve.
The New Bremen Firemen's Picnic kicked off Friday afternoon with the "Firemen's Memorial 5K Fun Run," along with food and beverages. Since 1921, the firemen's picnic has been a chance for the New Bremen German Township Fire Department to connect with the community they serve. While building the family atmosphere, the picnic also helps raise funds to support the fire department, allowing firefighters to strengthen their equipment and services in the event a neighbor needs help.
The firemen's picnic continues Saturday with plenty of fun activities, including the kids' and fire department's waterball tournaments, live music, and raffle drawings.
"We utilize the money that we get from this for new tools, new training materials... ways for us to continue to make sure that we're ready and able to serve our community to the best of our abilities. Our Firemen's Memorial 5K raises funds for our foundation for scholarships that we give away to students that are from the New Bremen School District that are looking to go into some sort of public service," says Logan O'Neill, Firefighter, New Bremen German Township Fire Department.
