LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Friday afternoon, The Johnny Appleseed Metro Park District showed the public what their educational center has to offer.
The park district held an open house to give people a chance to meet their naturalists and hear about the learning experiences that take place at the McElroy Environmental Education Center.
Guests could observe leaves or other samples under the microscope, look at all the live animal exhibits, touch real animal pelts, and more. The center has seen a lot of upgrades, and it is becoming an important place for JAMPD's programming.
"We do a lot of hiking, we do a lot of programming outside, even during the winter, but giving an opportunity to come inside and warm up a little bit or have a sit-down program and not worry about how cold it is, we have that space too. And this is a great starting point too, so we have a lot of programs that start here or center here," said naturalist Dan Hodges.
The naturalists hope that those who visit the McElroy Environmental Education Center leave having experienced something from nature that they have never had the chance to see or do before.
