With Fat Tuesday this week, it's a good time to treat yourself to an annual sweet tradition.
Eating a donut known as a paczki on the Thursday before Ash Wednesday is a Polish tradition that was changed to Fat Tuesday when it was brought over to the United States by Polish immigrants. The pastries are deep fried and filled with jelly or another sweet filling.
One local place to pick up the sweet treats is Pat's Donuts & Kreme, where owner Ed Ezzelle says they plan on quite a bit of business for Fat Tuesday.
"We're going to run 777 screens through our fryer, and there's about 30 on a screen, so we're going to come close to little over 20,000 single paczkis for Fat Tuesday," Ezzelle said. "We make an authentic one from a recipe that we brought down from Toledo, and Toledo has a big Polish community, and that's where I got the idea from."
Pat's has 10 different flavors of paczkis to choose from.
