"It just takes so many people, so many volunteers, and it takes your staff to be dedicated, and your board and other people to bring in all kinds of things."

Community members gathered at the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center to help raise money to support the non-profit facility. Lima's Samartian House provides shelter to about 250 women and children on average per year and serves more than 12,000 meals.

Organizers say that the Raisin' Bread event is not only a way to continue that assistance to people in Lima and the surrounding communities, but that it's also a way to honor those who lend a helping hand every day.

Organizers say that the Raisin' Bread event is not only a way to continue that assistance to people in Lima and the surrounding communities, but that it's also a way to honor those who lend a helping hand every day.

"It's not an easy task to be a non-profit, and as difficult as it may seem to be homeless, it would be worse if there was no shelter to go to," said Brandi Schroeder, executive director for Lima's Samaritan House. "It just takes so many people, so many volunteers, and it takes your staff to be dedicated, and your board and other people to bring in all kinds of things. We're just celebrating that, and we celebrate what's good in that, and we try to raise some money."

Lima's Samartian House has been serving local families in need for the last 37 years.
